Dylan's Open Tabs Vol. 9: Officer Snorlax
Burner Phones, RBP, 1st Cell Phone Ad, and Puppy Smiles
Hey, friends!
(Me imparting my Open Tabs wisdom on y’all.)
Hope you’re all doing well. With the combo Deltacron and whatever fresh hell happens between me writing this and the scheduled post going out, I really do hope you’re doing what you can to take care for yourself.
I’ve been working on not feeling guilty for the fact that I played Monopoly for 4 hours on Sunday and that I haven’t woken up to an alarm in days. It has now been well over a decade of high-stress jobs, startups, freelancing, and work travel, that I am finally learning to let myself do those things. The irony, of course, is playing Capitalism: The Game as a reprieve from Capitalism: The Game.
In a demonstration of irony, I finally cleared out a bunch of my bookmarked articles including 5 tech habits to adopt for a happier 2022. This article opens with a commentary on having too many Open Tabs…
yes, Open Tabs…
and proceeds to read me (and possibly you) for filth in the process. I will add that this is extra special as we are nearly a month past this article and 12 days too late to make use of any of these insights before 2022, but it’s never too late to consider your habits. I’d like to think I’ve made decent use out of my “tab hoarding”, and I am far more organized about it than many.
That said, I did like the author’s framing of Unitasking and “building in pauses” and figured that might be of interest to some of y’all. Just don’t use it against me and my newsletter!
This week, I have some video and written content I put together, and the usual random content you’ve come to love/hate.
BTW: thank you all for being here! There are more of you now than there are states in our country, lest we go full-on Civil War (honestly… likely?) and I just think that’s neat.
Happy Hump Day!
The psychology behind this newsletter:
Read this:
My latest for Inflow ADHD is about Revenge Bedtime Procrastination (RBP), the phenomenon in which people suspend their bedtimes in order to experience all of the things they didn’t get to enjoy during the day.
It’s very relevant to me personally, and I actually had to do research on this one, so check it out!
"We want to go to bed on time just like we want to get our work done during the day, both desires suffering from procrastination in different ways."
Revenge Bedtime Procrastination and ADHD - What's the Connection?
Facepalm to this:
LAPD officers ignored an ongoing robbery call to… catch Pokémon. Spoiler: they were fired, but the story is worth reading because, as you’d expect, these cops made every excuse despite literally being on record doing it.
Ah, cops. They’re just like us! Except, you know, if you slacked off at work, you might be late to a meeting instead of… you know, an in-progress robbery.
Consider this:
Another something by yours truly:
Act as though you’re living in this moment alongside your creative friend so you can some day say, “I knew them when,” as confidently as, “I supported them when.”
What is this:
So Costco has these hoodie blanket things and I was like, man I want one of those. I haven’t been in a while and figured I’d order online when I saw a deal site link a discount for them. Well, it’s a little more than the Costco version. It’s sherpa-lined and like, really, really big. What do you think?
This thing is for CHILDREN AND ADULTS?! ONE SIZE FITS ALL?! I can actually put my laptop in the pocket. Feel free to laugh at this image.
Watch this:
You know how I teased my YouTube in the last Open Tabs? Remember how my intention for 2022 is “Prolific”? Well… I’ve decided that if I HAD to have a New Years resolution, it’d be 1080p.
From Breaking Bad and Always Sunny to Futurama and Homestar Runner, burner phones show up in a lot of media. Most people seem to be aware of the concept, but burner phones aren’t just for heists and drug deals. Digital detox, dumb phone, minimalist telecommunications device, whatever you want to call it, there are tons of explanations for why one would want a burner phone. I recently got my very own burner phone, and I’m here to tell you why.
Fortunately or unfortunately for you, more of these are already in the works, with, you know… more coherent scripting and what not.
Have you seen this?
On the topic of phones, have you seen the very first cell phone ad?
I’m looking forward to this:
